The travelling time from Osaka to Kyoto is relatively short. You may take the JR special rapid train to Kyoto. The special rapid trains on the JR Kyoto Line require about 30 minutes and cost 560 yen between centrally located Osaka Station and Kyoto Station.
I would highly recommend this hotel called Hotel Gimmond Kyoto (京都銀門). It it with near to the train station (Karasuma-Oike subway station). Around the hotel there are 7-11, cafe, restaurants and within walking distance to the famous Nishiki Market.
Reasons why this hotel is value for money.
1. Within walking distance to the famous Nishiki Market. The market is big and filled with lots of food. For a foody person like us, it is a must go place.
2. 7-11 is just across the street. We simple love the 7-11 in Japan. It has all that you need including food and it is inexpensive. In order to save money, we have our breakfast from 7-11 everyday. And it has a wide variety for you to choose.
3. Tones of restaurants nearby. You do not need to worry about food as there are tones of it nearby.
