We able to pre-booked our ticket online and collect it at any of the Family Mart in Taiwan. The benefit of pre-booking online is that you get early bird discount from (10%-25%). Generally, you will be able to get the ticket on the day itself at the train station. However, you will be paying it at regular price. So should you know your itinerary, why not book in advance?
We took the high speed rail from Taoyuan to Chiayi early in the morning.
From Chiayi, you are able to take the Alishan Forest Railway narrow-gauge train from Chiayi station to Alishan. You may also take taxi from the station itself as well. The lazy us choose to take taxi. It was a long journey up the hill to Alishan. Knowing that we are tourist, the friendly taxi uncle start to introduce us to the place and even offer us tea.
We check in to a hotel called Alishan Hotel. The location of the hotel is fantastic. It is right at the top of Alishan Township and is easily accessible to the scenic area of Alishan.
We booked a double suite for one night. Normally, a double suite will easily cost more than SGD $350 per night. However, we make use of our agoda reward points to deduct the cost. Thus, we only pay SGD $200 for our one night stay. The room is big and clean. We love it.
As the hotel is right at the top of Alishan, it is best for sunrise viewing. However, the lazy us can never wake up on time for sunrise.
Rest of our time in Alishan is to go for the scenic view. The air is fresh and cooling.
